Bardia National Park is the largest national park and wilderness area in the Terai and has excellent wildlife-watching opportunities. The park protects 968 sq km of sal forest and grassland and together with the 550 sq km Banke National Park.

It protects lush dense forests; savannah and riverine woodlands are home to an incredibly diverse range of flora and fauna. Endangered species such as Rhinoceros, Wild elephant, Tiger, Swamp deer, Gharial crocodile, Gangetic dolphin, Bengal florican and the Sarus crane are all found here. The variety and diversity of life inside the park are huge, with at least 150 species of reptiles and fish, over 400 species of birds and 48 different mammals have been recorded.
